Name me a publisher who hasn't jumped on the Vampire band wagon... and a designer who hasn't resorted to the old dripping-red-nail-varnish trick. Guilty!
One of my favourite teen fiction authors right now. Takes me back a (very) long way to the angst of those teenage years. The two Secret Diary covers were the first we designed for Liz. The colour graphics were printed on a trace overlay, with the type showing through on the cover beneath it. This created a funky and fresh feel which has been very well received.Jumping to Confusions is the latest one. The trace thing didn't really work with this image so thanks to Emma at Random House, we now have funky foils!
Born Survivor Bear Grylls turns his hand to teenage fiction. Jerry and I were asked to design a series look that reflects the boys' own/survival market. We were briefed to produce a lenticular central image (the boy is animated, with the image changing as you look at it from different angles.) Just received the lenticular proofs from China where they were printed - they look fab!
Rachel Vale, Art Director at MacMillan asked me to come up with these quirky covers to sit under her fab jackets for the two most recent ALLIE FINKLE titles. Great fun to do!
Another fab commission for Jerry and me; this time we were asked to repackage Anthony Horowitz's horror titles for Orchard. This open brief appealed to Jerry's sense of the macabre and for once I let him run with it...
A big thankyou to Tim Rose, Art Director at Orchard, who ensured really good quality print on these.
This was a dream job for me; to redesign all this prolific author's titles on the Random House backlist. I came up with the design and commissioned Jerry to paint the vignettes to give them a classy, timeless feel. The final covers have doodles and swirls in glittery foil along the stripey backgrounds.
I developed a new graphic cover approach for this award-winning author. BURN MY HEART is Beverley Naidoo's latest novel. I'm pleased to say that she was so happy with this new cover look, Puffin have decided to rejacket much of her backlist in keeping with this design.
I then applied the same cover look to this Carnegie Medal winning book.
SIMON & SCHUSTER
I was asked to come up with a fresh, 'chick-lit' cover look for this series from the US.
A more sophisticated new look for this young adult series.
DAVID FICKLING BOOKS
We applied this bold design to Lee Weatherley's new titles and backlist.
RANDOM HOUSE CHILDREN'S BOOKS
RANDOM HOUSE CHILDREN'S BOOKS
We developed a new cover look for Robert Swindell's backlist, tying them all in to the thriller genre.
RANDOM HOUSE CHILDREN'S BOOKS
KATIE MILK – a great new whodunnit series for pre-teens.
TRANSWORLD
This was a wonderful opportunity to rebrand these very funny books.
RANDOM HOUSE
It was an honour to produce the covers for these two exceptional books by Tabitha Suzuma. By far the most moving and thought provoking stories I've read in a long time.
TRANSWORLD
I love these books. I grew up with them so it was a pure pleasure to be given the chance to rejacket them. I created this painted stripey background to tie them all together and commissioned Paul Hess to paint the characters. His quirky yet classic style does justice to Joan Aiken's wonderful, often grotesque creations!
